Direct Access Courses
Two-day course
The two-day Direct Access course is for very experienced riders of manual bikes who have already completed CBT and is subject to a one-hour assessment lesson to assess suitability. Both days are conducted on a 500cc bike to get you used to handling a bigger machine culminating in your practical test in the afternoon of the second day. We take you all around the prospective test routes and conduct a mock test on you.
You will need to have passed a motorcycle theory test before you can take your practical test.
You do not need to worry about booking your practical test as this is already pre-booked by us for you.
The two days of this course need to be kept together and the last day has to fall on a weekday for your practical test.
To undertake a two-day Direct Access course, you will need to be very competent on a bike with standard manual transmission (clutch and gears, with the gear change on the left foot).
People who are normally all right for this course have already completed CBT, ridden on the roads for at least two thousand miles recently and picked up very few faults in their riding style
Three-day course
The three-day Direct Access course is for experienced riders of manual bikes and subject to a one hour assessment. Day one is conducted on a 125 cc machine (either CBT or a day on the road). Day two is conducted on road on a bike of over 46.6 b.h.p. (we use 500cc bikes), teaching you all you need to know for your test and more. Day three consists of showing you around the prospective test routes, a mock test, followed by your practical test in the afternoon!
You will need to have passed a motorcycle theory test before you can take your practical test on the last day.
You do not need to worry about booking your practical test as this is already pre-booked by us for you.
The last two days of this course need to be kept together and the last day has to fall on a weekday for your practical test. The first day of this course can be separated away from the last two days. We conduct training seven days a week.
To undertake a three-day Direct Access course, you will need to be very competent on a bike with standard manual transmission (clutch and gears, with the gear change on the left foot).
Day one of the course can either be CBT (if you do not already have a certificate) or a day on the road on a 125cc bike, correcting bad habits before progressing to the 500cc bikes.
The people who are normally all right for this course often resemble the examples listed below
- Somebody who has ridden extensively relatively recently but whose CBT certificate has expired.
- Somebody who has ridden extensively in another country but cannot convert their bike licence to a UK one.
- Somebody who has a current CBT certificate but has picked up quite a few flaws in their general roadcraft (missing observations, going too fast, lack of planning etc.)
- Somebody who has completed CBT and has ridden for approximately one thousand to two thousand miles recently.
Four-day course
The four-day Direct Access course is suitable for the semi-experienced rider. Days one and two will be taken on a 125cc bike (day one - either CBT or a day on the road), whilst days three and four will take place on a machine over 46.6 b.h.p. (we use 500cc bikes). Day four consists of showing you around the prospective test routes, a mock test, followed by your practical test in the afternoon! This course is not designed for an absolute beginner.
You will need to have passed a motorcycle theory test before you can take your practical test on the last day.
You do not need to worry about booking your practical test as this is already pre-booked by us for you.
The last two days of this course need to be kept together and the last day has to fall on a weekday for your practical test. The first two days of this course can be separated away from the last two days, or you can keep all four days together. We conduct training seven days a week.
To undertake a four-day Direct Access course, you will need to be quite competent on a bike with standard manual transmission (clutch and gears, with the gear change on the left foot).
The people who normally need to take this course often resemble the examples listed below
- Somebody who has just completed CBT recently on a manual bike and wants to progress to a full unrestricted licence.
- Somebody who has ridden quite a lot relatively recently but whose CBT certificate has expired.
- Somebody who has ridden extensively in another country but cannot convert their bike licence to a UK one.
- Somebody with extensive automatic experience but no manual experience. To get you up to speed on a manual machine, you would either need to take CBT day one on a geared machine, or book in a one-hour lesson on a manual machine first. Occasionally, riders with just automatic experience benefit most from a five-day course.
- Somebody with experience of changing gears on the handlebar (like the Vespa PX125), but with no experience of changing gears with the foot. To get you up to speed on a standard manual machine, you would either need to take CBT day one, on one of our standard 125cc machines, or book in a one-hour lesson first and let us assess you at the same time.
- Somebody with extensive off-road experience but no on-road experience.
Five- day course
The five-day Direct Access course is suitable for a novice rider. The first day will be your CBT, which we like you to take two weeks before the start of your last four days (they do not have to be consecutive). This is so that should you need further training for CBT, you will have time to complete it without it interfering with the rest of your course. On days one to three, you will be training on a 125cc bike followed by days four and five being run on a machine over 46.6 b.h.p. (we use 500cc bikes). We will begin day five by showing you around the prospective test routes, conducting a mock test, followed by your practical test in the afternoon!
You will need to have passed a motorcycle theory test before you can take your practical test on the last day.
You do not need to worry about booking your practical test as this is already pre-booked by us for you.
The CBT course (day one) needs to be done two weeks prior to the rest of your training. Days two and three of this course can be separated away from the last two days (days four and five), or you can keep all of the last four days together. Days four and five of this course need to be kept together and day five has to fall on a weekday for your practical test. We conduct training seven days a week.
