Restricted Licence

Restricted licence

The restricted licence is aimed mainly at those who want a full motorcycle licence, but do not intend riding too powerful a motorbike in the immediate future. It is also the only licence that can be gained by those aged seventeen to twenty inclusive.

You must complete CBT, a motorcycle theory test and take a practical test. You can take CBT, further training and the practical test all as part of an intensive course. You would need to organise your own theory test, which you can do here.

Restricted Licence Courses

The Restricted Licence courses that we run are as follows:

  • 2-day Supercourse (Very Experienced Riders) - Info
  • 3-day Supercourse (Experienced Riders) - Info
  • 4-day Supercourse (Semi Experienced Riders) - Info
  • 5-day Supercourse (Novice Riders) - Info

Two-Day Supercourse

This course is for very experienced riders who have already completed CBT and is subject to a one-hour assessment lesson to assess suitability. To book an assessment lesson, please go to our online booking page.

The first day consists of teaching what is required of you for the test. The second day will begin with mock tests in the morning culminating with your practical test in the afternoon.

If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a motorcycle theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

To help your prepare for the tests we conduct mock tests on you and take you around the prospective test routes before hand.

You do not need to worry about booking your practical tests as this is already pre-booked by us for you. Close

Three-Day Supercourse

This course is for a very experienced rider and is subject to an assessment lesson. To book an assessment lesson, please go to our online booking page.

The first day will either be your CBT (or a day on the road if you already have a valid CBT certificate), second day polishing up your road riding skills followed by the test day. Again, we will put you through mock tests in the morning, ending up with your practical test in the afternoon.

If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a motorcycle theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a motorcycle theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

Five-Day Supercourse

This course is suitable for a novice rider. Your first day will begin with CBT, where we would leave a gap of approximately two weeks before continuing with the rest of your course. This is just in case you should need further practise or to repeat your CBT. The final four days will improve your road-riding skills and handling of the motorcycle. On the final day, you will take your practical test.

The Restricted Licence

The Restricted Licence comes in two styles, 'A1' and 'A2'. The 'A1' licence will limit you to 125cc forever unless you take another test and the 'A2' licence will have a two-year power restriction (to 33 b.h.p.). Once the two-year period is up, you can then ride any size bike that you want without restriction.

To gain the ‘A1’ licence (if you do not plan to ride bigger than a 125cc bike after your test) you just need to take the practical test on a bike between 75cc and 125cc where the bike’s top speed is less than 62.5 m.p.h.

If you want the ‘A2’ licence, you will need to take your test on a 125cc bike where the bike is capable of 62.5 m.p.h. or more (this must be stated in the handbook, or a letter must be produced from the manufacturer). For a list of bikes which achieve the A1 or A2 licence please click here (opens in new window).

You can take your test on either a manual or an automatic motorbike. If you take your test on a manual motorcycle, you can ride either manual motorcycles or automatics, but if you take your test on an automatic, you will be limited to automatics.

Our Training Courses

Our training courses are flexible in approach and we run training courses seven days a week. You can run your course over weekends to fit it in around work, but your last day (test day) would need to be on a weekday. Alternatively, book some time off and train with us during the week. To discuss your specific requirements give us a call.

If you do not have your own motorcycle, do not worry. We have a fleet of well-maintained bikes for hire, both automatic and manual.

In preparation for the practical element of your course, we strongly advise you get and digest The Official DSA Guide to Riding - the essential skills which you can order here.

Our pass rate is second to none. Most trainees pass their test first time with us.
