A2 Restricted Licence Courses

Ride a medium sized bike

The A2 Restricted licence allows riders aged 19 or over to ride up to a medium sized motorcycle as long as it is restricted to 47 b.h.p (35 kW) and has a power-to-weight ratio of not more than 0.2 kW per kg. The bike mustn’t be derived from a vehicle more than twice its power.

You must complete CBT (which you can do as part of an intensive course), a motorcycle theory test and take your practical tests on a medium-sized motorcycle.

Examples of some bikes you can ride…

  • Honda VT750C2B Shadow
  • Honda VT750s
  • Honda NC700S
  • Honda NC700X
  • Honda CB500X
  • Honda CB500F
  • Honda CBR500R

Restricted licence courses

The A2 Restricted licence courses that we operate are as follows:

The two-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course is for very experienced riders of manual bikes who have already completed CBT and are very near test standard. The course is subject to a one-hour assessment lesson to assess suitability. The days are conducted on a medium-sized bike to get you used to handling a bigger machine and include Module 1 and Module 2 training. The Module 1 test takes place on the second day of your course, with the Module 2 test on day 2.5.

To help you prepare for the Module 1 test, we have extensive off-road facilities laid out like a DVSA test centre. We also have a speed gun to aid testing. For the Module 2 test, we conduct mock tests on you and take you around the prospective test routes beforehand.

To undertake a two-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course, you will need to be very competent on a bike with standard manual transmission (clutch and gears, with the gear change on the left foot). If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

The three-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course is for experienced riders of manual bikes who are not too far from test standard and is subject to a one-hour assessment lesson. Day one is conducted on a 125cc machine (either CBT (if you do not already have one) or a day on the road). Days two and three are conducted on road on medium sized bikes. The Module 1 test takes place on the third day of your course, with the Module 2 test on day 3.5. To help you prepare for the Module 1 test, we have extensive off-road facilities laid out like a DVSA test centre. We also have a speed gun to aid testing. For the Module 2 test, we conduct mock tests on you and take you around the prospective test routes beforehand.

The four-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course is suitable for the semi-experienced rider. Days one and two will be taken on a 125cc bike (day one – either CBT or a day on the road), whilst days three and four will take place on a medium sized bike. The Module 1 test takes place on the fourth day of your course, with the Module 2 test on day 4.5. This course is not designed for an absolute beginner.

To undertake a four-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course, you will need to be quite competent on a bike with standard manual transmission (clutch and gears, with the gear change on the left foot).

If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

The five-and-a-half-day Restricted licence course is suitable for a novice rider. The first day will be your CBT, which we like you to take several days before the start of your last four days (they do not have to be consecutive). This is so that should you need further training for CBT, you will have time to complete it without it interfering with the rest of your course.

On days one to three, you will be training on a 125cc bike followed by days four and five on a medium sized bike. The Module 1 test takes place on the fifth day of your course, with the Module 2 test on day 5.5.

To help you prepare for the Module 1 test, we have extensive off-road facilities laid out like a DVSA test centre. We also have a speed gun to aid testing. For the Module 2 test, we conduct mock tests on you and take you around the prospective test routes beforehand.

If you have not already done so, you would need to book and pass a theory test. Further details on the theory test are to be found on the motorcycle theory test page of our website.

Our Training Courses

Our training courses are flexible in approach and we run training courses seven days a week. You can run your course over weekends to fit it in around work, but your test days would normally need to be conducted on a weekday (Monday to Friday). Sometimes the DVSA do put on extra programmes of tests on on a weekend in the summer months, so if you do want to test on a weekend, check with us at the time of booking. To discuss your specific requirements give us a call on 020 8900 9990.

If you do not have your own motorcycle, do not worry. We have a fleet of well-maintained bikes for hire.
